Twitter to offer promoted tweets on Flipboard and Yahoo Japan
With its earnings call just two days away, Twitter announced that its promoted tweets will soon be popping up on Flipboard and Yahoo Japan, its first two partners for non-Twitter-based promoted tweets, Mashable.com reported.
"Flipboard already integrates tweets into the app, the promoted tweet will have the same look and feel that is native to the Flipboard experience," Ameet Ranadive, senior director of product at Twitter, wrote in a blog post.
Investors have taken issue with Twitter's relatively low growth rates, charging that the network — with 284 million monthly active users in its most recent quarter — will be a relative niche compared to Facebook and its 1.3 billion monthly active users.
One way Twitter can fight above its weight class is with a syndicated ad network. The company has access to more than 1 billion mobile devices thanks to its MoPub acquisition. Those ads, however, appear in more traditional forms, including banners.
