Russian-Armenian friendship park open in Surgut
The municipal authorities of the Russian city of Surgut are going to launch a monument and park dedicated to the Russian-Armenian friendship.
The initiative is the brainchild of Armenian national cultural center Ararat.
The foundations of the monument will be lain on April 24, the Armenian Genocide Remembrance day. It will be modeled after a design proposed by Armenian artist Volodya Sargsyan’s studio.
The friendship monument will feature two pillars symbolizing the two different states. One of them will be carved from white marble, the other – from white tufa. A cross between them will symbolize the two nations’ state religion. The Armenian and Russian coats of arms and texts in two languages will also be engraved on the sculpture.
