Youth march to Genocide Memorial from Nagorno-Karabakh
A crowd of young activists from the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic on Friday organized a march to the Genocide Memorial (Yerevan’s Tsitsernakaberd park) to commemorate the 1.5 million Armenians killed in the final days of the Ottoman Empire.
Speaking to Tert.am, Andranik, a member of the group Young People’s Union, said they had crossed 450 km from the village Chapar (Martakert region) to make the pilgrimage.
“We set out from the village Chapar, crossing Stepanakert (Nagorno-Karabakh capital), Lachin (the land corridor connecting the two Armenian Republics), Yeghegnadzor (Vayots Dzor region, Armenia) and Echmiadzin (Armavir region) to get to Tsitsernakaberd (the park where ). There were many obstacles on the way, but we overcame them to realize our goal,” he said.
Asked why they decided to make the long-distance journey on foot, the activist said, “We found it the right way to pay our duty and make our pilgrimage.”
