A Persian language competition – oral speech and writing tests - for teams of schools teaching Persian has taken place in Yerevan.

Teams from Gyumri, as well as from the Dvin and Karbi village schools, participated in the competition, co-organized by the General Education Department of the Yerevan Municipality and the Cultural Center of the Iranian Embassy in Armenia.

“Different competitions are a means of encouraging students. Teaching of Persia is has solid grounds in Yerevan’s schools and, by cooperating with the Iranian Embassy’s Cultural Center, we try to achieve better results. We have arranged retraining of Persian language teachers and publishing of new manuals. Our higher schools teach Persian, so we must have a solid basis at least in some schools. Persian is not only a state language of Iran, which is our neighbor, but also a language of centuries-old history and literature," said Gayane Soghomonyan, Head of the General Education Department, Yerevan Municipality.
