Third mummified body found in melting ice on Mexican mountain
Mountaineers have discovered another mummified body on Mexico's highest mountain - the third frozen body discovered there in recent months, The Daily Mail reports.
The corpses are being uncovered as the glacier and ice packs melt on the 5,610-metre Pico de Orizaba, which is a five-hour drive from Mexico City.
But while the first two bodies are thought to belong to climbers who went missing after an avalanche 55
years ago, the latest was not found wearing any specialist clothing - sparking speculation that he died in a plane crash in the 1990s.
The third body was brought down from the mountain on Thursday, a spokesman for Chalchicomula de Sesma, the town nearest the volcanic peak, has said. But his identity is still being confirmed.
The corpse appeared to be wearing dress clothing, officials have said, leading them to believe the person might have died when an airplane crashed into the mountain in the 1990s.
The skull of the first body was spotted by climbers who were just 1,000ft from the mountain peak.
The discovery prompted a search by a group of civil protection mountaineers, who came across the second corpse buried in the ice.
Local officials suspect the bodies are two of three Mexicans who went missing after an avalanche 55 years ago on the mountain, which is popular with climbers.
