Heliofication best way to curb power hike in Armenia – specialist

A heliofication project would be the optimal solution for Armenia in the current trouble over rising power prices, says a specialist.

At a news conference on Saturday, Vahan Hamazaspyan, a doctor in technical sciences who coordinates the Armenian Heliofication Project, proposed a switchover to solar power as a cost-effective solution to the problem.

“The reason we do not implement the heliofication project is the opposition by the governing forces. As I hear the legislators’ justifications behind the power hike, the idea that comes to mind is how to get rid of such legislators,” he said.

Hamazaspyan assured there are absolutely no technical problems in terms of realizing the plan, with Armenia’s scientific potential being enough to independently tackle the existing problems.

“We see a big prospect here, so if Armenia does implement the helioficiation project, it may be a leader in the sphere,” he added.

The scientist said that he intends to also give his project a try abroad given the diaspora’s considerable interest in the idea and understanding of the problem.
