In an interview with Tert.am Rector of Yerevan State University (YSU) Aram Simonyan spoke of cooperation between Armenia’s higher schools and business community.

According to him, relations between higher schools and employers leave to be desired though some companies are closely cooperating with YSU.

Mr Simonyan pointed out a need for government support. On the other hand, he considered it a problem of bilateral contacts – higher schools and employers have to establish contacts themselves.

“I think our business world has not yet addressed the needs of university education because they are unaware of the significance of education as well as the world is. Secondly, our business world has not reached the level to understand the country cannot be a developed economy without cooperating with education,” Mr Simonyan said.

Although students have sufficient knowledge to start working, their practical skills arouse concern.

“To dispel fears, employers need to actively cooperate with our higher school in developing syllabus. If necessary, they can attend lectures and organize training courses as well. We cannot always persuade employers into organizing training courses, but some progress has been made.”
