New Microsoft alarm clock makes users recite tongue-twisters
Microsoft has released an alarm clock app that makes user take strange selfies and recite tongue-twisters to turn off the alarm, Sky News reports.
It said that forcing you out of bed to complete a task is a good way to stop people simply reaching for the snooze button.
There are three different 'games' on the app - the first is called 'Express Yourself' and tells you to take a selfie showing a specific emotion chosen by the app.
The second is called 'Colour Capture' and asks you to take a photograph of an object nearby that matches the colour shown on screen.
The third is called 'Tongue Twister' which asks you to repeat a phrase over and over.
If users fail to complete the game in a certain amount of time, the app will start playing the alarm again.
Only one game is needed to shut the ringing off, and you get to choose which one to play.
Microsoft is using the app to show off its Project Oxford machine-learning technology, that focuses on emotion, computer vision and speech.
Programme manager Allison Light said: "We tried to do games that are challenging in their own way.
"Tongue-twisters, from a speech perspective, are hard. Especially when you're just waking up, your tongue isn't really awake yet.
"The 'Colour Capture' game is challenging if you don't have something of that colour next to your bed.
"You might have to get out of bed and go to the living room to find it, and at that point you're not going back to bed."
