Chevrolet debuts new Camaro model
Chevrolet made a big splash at this week's New York Auto Show without making a lot of noise.
While it didn't have the light show, press conference or related fanfare that came along with the show's other debuts, the 2017 Camaro ZL1 is easily among the most exciting premieres of this year's show.
The new Camaro is lighter, tighter and mightier than it's predecessor, dropping 200 pounds, adding a tauter frame and increasing the horsepower by 60 points to 640, matching the equally impress 640 lb.-ft. of torque. Chevy hasn't released any performance specs for the ZL1, but it's fair to set expectations high as the 2016 model year Camaro was the fastest one to date and 2017 is only gonna be faster.
6.2-liter V-8, the likes of which General Motors has used in other speedy sports cars like the Corvette Z06 and the Cadillac CTS-V, which comes with either a 6-speed manual or 10-speed automatic transmission.
And let's not forget the red-hot elephant in the room: the design.
Despite being lighter, the 2017 ZL1 appears longer than last year's models, though it maintains the signature aesthetic of the modern Camaro: sharp lines, a sweeping grille, hearty hips and rear spoiler.
For good measure, Chevrolet threw in 20-inch forged aluminum wheels with massive 6- (on the front wheels) and 4-piston (on the rear) Brembo brakes and custom-designed Goodyear Eagle F1 to act as the cherries on top of this muscle car sundae.
