Pentagon to provide $147 million for the development of hypersonic technologies

The US Department of Defense on Monday announced the signing of a contract with the American company Lockheed Martin to conduct research within the framework of a prototype of a hypersonic vehicle.


According to the Agency, the cost of the ordered work on the project Mach 5 Tactical Boost Glide valued at 147,3 million dollars. The project is supervised by the Agency for defense advanced research projects USA (DARPA). The timing and specification of the works in the message are not specified,  RIA Novosti reports.


Currently, the development of hypersonic vehicles for military purposes, the speed of which is at least five times the speed of sound, conducted in several countries, including the US, Russia and China. In particular, two years ago there were reports about the development in the United States projects of hypersonic vehicles Messianic programme Falcon and X-37, the last of which involves the creation of orbital combat units.
