Street-Legal SCG 003S expected to hit record in Nurburgring 

Jim Glickenhaus's SCG 003 Competizione has completed its second Nürburgring 24 Hours this year, and it's been racing ever since.

But Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus and Manifattura Automobili Torino–a company helmed by ex-Pininfarina manager Paolo Garella–are simultaneouslly busy testing SGC's road car. And they say it's ready to put up some huge numbers, Roadandtrack.com reports.

SCG envisioned three variants of its 003 sports car: 003C, for Competizione, the dedicated track-only race car; 003CS, for Competizione Stradale, a street-legal version of the race car with all of the safety and telemetry equipment required to race; and 003S, for Stradale, the street-legal grand-tourer with a full interior.

Just like the big-winged but still road-legal CS version, the street-oriented SCG 003 Stradale will be powered by a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 based on a German automaker's production engine, but tuned and built by Autotechnica Motori. Using a custom ECU and different turbochargers, the V8 is said to make more than 750 horsepower and 590 lb.-ft. of torque, depending on the customer's requirements.

When I talked to one of the engineers at said well-known German manufacturer, he said its engines "are very strong," and "can take that power for sure." McLaren had no comment.

With a wet weight of just 2866 lbs. and a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, SCG says the 003S will get to 60 mph in under three seconds. Its claimed top speed is more than 217 mph, while its aero package is said to generate 1543 lbs. of downforce at 155 mph, despite using a smaller integrated wing than the more radical 003CS. Glickenhaus says the car generates 2 g in the corners, and who knows how much when you step on its carbon-ceramic Brembo brakes.

SCG also expects the Stradale to lap the Nürburgring in under 6:30 on street tires, which would be quite something, given the Porsche 918 Spyder's 6:57 time. Then again, SCG built a car from scratch and took it endurance racing. They know the Competizione's times, and they know the 'Ring by now.
