Vatican celebrates Armenia’s independence, 25th anniversary of diplomatic relations
The St Nicola Armenian Catholic Church of Rome on Wednesday hosted a special event dedicated to the 26th anniversary of Armenia’s independence and the 25th anniversary of the bilateral diplomatic relations with the Holy See of Vatican, reports the Foreign Ministry’s press service.
Before the start of the ceremony, Priest Narek Namoyan, the head of Rome’s Levonian Pontifical College, addressed his greeting remarks to the participants.
In his speech at the public Mass that followed, Cardinal Sandri highly praised the traditionally developing bilateral ties as a “long way composed of bright moments” (marked by the visit of the three Armenian presidents to the Vatican and the visits by Popes John Paul II and Francis I to Armenia). He also highlighted the warm and constructively developing dialogue between the Armenian Apostolic Church and the Holy See.
Every accomplished step paved the way to a deeper respect and a closer friendship which added beauty to the diplomatic relations, the cardinal added.
After the ceremony, Armenian Ambassador to the Holy See Mikael Minasyan delivered a speech to praise the centuries-old history of the relations and the high-level meaningful dialogue anchored on mutual deep respect.
The ambassador also thanked Cardinal Sandri for his personal contribution to the inter-church dialpgue.
The Mass was followed by a special reception attended by representatives of the Holy See State Secretariat, high-ranking government officials, ambassadors accredited to the Vatican and other representatives of the diplomatic corps.
