Garo Paylan, an Armenian member of Turkey’s Grand National Assembly, has called upon the Turkish authorities to recognize the Armenian Genocide.

The lawmaker of the opposition People’s Democratic Party has also raised a demand for granting citizenship to descendants of the big tragedy’s victims, Agos reports.

While introducing his bill to parliament, Paylan made repeated references to the term “genocide”.

“103 years after the Genocide, the Armenians who are now alive are struggling to reinstate justice. Yet, millions of other Armenians who survived the Genocide passed away without ever tasting the fruits of justice. So Turkey’s parliament is the right place for discussing the Genocide issue,” he said.

In his legal measure, Paylan also made calls for ruling out the practice of naming streets after perpetrators of big atrocities.
