Armenian foreign minister discusses Karabakh peace with top OSCE official

Armenia’s foreign minister on Tuesday received the OSCE secretary seneral to discuss the recent developments in the Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh) peace process and the political developments in the country.


Greeting Ambassador Thomas Greminger in his office, Zohrab Mnatsakanyan highly appreciated the Organization’s role as a key regional platform promoting an interstate dialogue, and a central international body on Armenia’s foreign policy agenda. He reaffirmed country’s willingness to continue the active partnership “in the frameworks of the joint cooperation program”.


The sides also discussed the developing dialogue between the OSCE Secretariat and the Foreign Ministry.


Mnatsakanyan reiterated the new government’s strong commitment to continue its reforms towards building rule of law and justice, ensuring socio-economic equality and fighting corruption in the country.


According to the Foreign Ministry’s press service, Mnatsakanyan also briefed the diplomat on Armenia’s development agenda, a key government priority focusing on innovation (creative education, agriculture, etc) as a fundamental pillar.

In the context of the planned snap parliamentary elections, he highlighted the need of an active and effective cooperation with international partners for the proper conduct of the voting.

 

The sides mutually emphasized the OSCE Minsk Group’s role as the only international mission responsible for negotiating peace over Artsakh.

 

Mnatsakanyan highlighted the country’s status and security as the key priorities for Armenia, stressing also the importance of a peacebuilding atmosphere. As major priorities in the current negotiations, he also underlined the unconditional respect for earlier arrangements, and the repeated calls for ending ceasefire violations and the belligerent rhetoric.
