We understand Armenian government’s desire to help compatriots in Syria - US Embassy

We understand the Armenian government’s desire to help the Armenian population in Syria, says the United States’ Embassy in a statement addressing the decision to dispatch a humanitarian mission to the country (for a peacekeeping mission in collaboration with Russia).   

“We, too, are concerned about the humanitarian consequences of the war in Syria and the plight of civilians. While we can’t comment on a hypothetical Armenian mission in Syria, the United States is closely monitoring the situation in Idlib province, Syria, where three million innocent civilians are being surrounded and are under threat of an imminent Assad regime attack, backed by Russia and Iran,” reads the official response by the Embassy’s press service.
