The leader of the People’s Party of Armenia (PPA) said Tuesday that their political force does not have any plans to run for the National Assembly in December.

“Given the Electoral Code currently in effect in Armenia, the PPA does not find it appropriate to run in the snap parliamentary election,” Stepan Demirchyan told Tert.am.

Recently shared news on the social media suggest that first President Levon Ter-Petrosyan’s party, the Armenian National Congress (ANC), is not going to join the electoral campaign either. Yet, the party’s spokesperson, Armen Khachatryan, neither confirms or denies the reports for now. “We will issue a statement tomorrow,” he said earlier today when contacted for further comments.

The snap parliamentary election - the first in the Republic of Armenia since the 1991 independence - is slated for December 9. So far, only Acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's Civil Contract party and the alliance We (representing the Republic party led Aram Sargsyan, a lawmaker from the parliamentary faction YELQ, and the the Free Democrats party led by Khachatur Kokobelyan) have announced their decision to run for parliament.
