The 2019 World Congress on Information Technologies (WCIT) will be held in Armenia from October 6 to 9 to attract around 2,000 guests from 60 world countries, Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Avinyan said today.

At a high level government meeting discussing the agenda, Avinyan also noted that the biannual event is for the first time in the past decade taking place in the European part of the globe (i.e. – Armenia).

“That’s a wonderful opportunity to position Armenia among the countries with developed and viable ecosystems,” he told the participants.

This year’s congress will address artificial intelligence, cyber-security issues, digital decentralization, smart towns, etc. Hundreds of companies have registered for participation, while negotiations are being held with representatives of different states to consider the formats of sponsorship programs and the possibility of representing IT products in separate pavilions.

Avinyan said that the government should collaborate with the organizers to ensure the high-level conduct of the event. He added that the experience of the Francophonie summit in October sets a good precedent for the upcoming congress, motivating the young government to “stride towards new heights”.
