Yerevan hosts UNESCAP paperless trade forum
Experts from the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) on Thursday met in Yerevan for an advisory board session to discuss procedures for facilitating paperless trade.
The event was organized in collaboration with the State Revenue Committee, which is represented in the UNESCAP system. It brought together representatives of government agencies and the private sector to consider prospects for electronic exchange through raising the existing opportunities and challenges.
According to the Committee's press service, the participants analyzed the regulations in the sector and the technical capacities, elaborating also on the key achievements. They addressed also export- and import-related procedures, relying on an analysis of business processes.
Thanking the international experts for assistance, a deputy head of the Committee, Mikael Pashayan, said that Armenia is among the first member states of the Eurasian Economic Union and the EU Eastern Partnership Programme to sign the Framework Agreement on Facilitation of Cross-border Paperless Trade in Asia and the Pacific. ''We believe that technological development is aimed at simplifying and facilitating the turnover between states and [eliminating] the difficulties with border crossing,'' he said.
According to Yann Duval, the chief of the UNESCAP Trade, Investment and Innovation Division, Armenia can not only adopt the best international practice in electronic governance but also serve itself as a good model for different world countries, especially in the Asia-Pacific region. He also expressed his willingness to direct UNESCAP's expert potential to the development of paperless trade in the country.
