Armenia's finance minister 'discontent' with 2018 economic records
The 5.2% economic growth, which Armenia recorded in 2018, is not the desired outcome for our country despite the previous government's forecast for a maximum 4.5%, the minister of finance said Wednesday.
Addressing the parliament debate discussing the implementation of last year's chief fiscal document, Atom Janjughazyan noted such a dynamics was observed against the backdrop of a 3.5% growth in the global economy. He also highlighted the average growth records of 2.1% and 2.5% in the EU and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), respectively.
The minister called the National Assembly's attention to the fact that the services sector had a large share in last year's positive dynamics. ''That prompts us that the declared objectives in the government's program do not have ant alternative. Hence our focus should now be on reshaping the economy,'' he added.
Janjughazyan further highlighted the political speculations dealing with national security, foreign relations and failure to fulfill economic and financial obligations.
Meantime he agreed that the continuing interia was inevitable in certain cases. ''Our evaluations do not reveal changes absolutely everywhere. Our ambitions are beyond the recorded outcomes,'' the minister said.
