Nikol Pashinyan grants Armenian citizenship to former French legislator

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has granted Armenian citizenship to  René Rouquet, a former member of the French National Assembly, appreciating his long-lasting friendship with Armenia as a good sign of dedication to the country and its people.

Greeting the guest in his office on Wednesday, the Prime Minister noted that Mr. Rouquet had paid over 30 visits to Armenia and Artsakh since 1989. “But this visit is special for you. Today you are being offered a passport of the citizen of the Republic of Armenia to be from now on not only our unconditional friend but also co-citizen,'' he said, handing the passport to the politician.

Congratulating Mr. Rouquet on the remarkable occasion, Pashinyan also thanked him for his years-long pro-Armenian activities.

Mr Rouquet, for his part, thanked the premier for the appreciation, saying that it is a great honor for him to get an Armenian passport. "I started my parliamentary career as early as at the age of 35, and I have been advocating the Armenian cause ever since. I have kept in close touch with the Armenians in Alfortville, and I see Armenian people as my close relatives and friends,'' he said.

Mr Rouquet promised to carry on with his pro-Armenian activities by voicing and seeking solutions to the nation's concerns.

Reaffirming the Armenian government's respect and appreciation, Pashinyan added that the passport reflects the attitude of high esteem.

According to a press release by the Office of the Prime Minister of Armenia, the sides also exchanged views  on the furtherance of Armenian-French friendly relations.
