Armenia 'actively harmonizing digital agenda' with EU market, says hgh-tech minister

We are actively engaged in bringing Armenia’s infrastructures and digital market in line with the EU standards, the minister of high-tech industry said in Kazakhstan, introducing the country’s digital development agenda.

"The development of joint infrastructure projects will help make the region more competitive and better engaged in global economic processes. Armenia, in that sense, is actively cooperating with the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) - and countries involved in the Eurasian Union, as well as the European Union - to ensure the high standards of the decision-making and implementation of projects dealing with the digital agenda," Hakob Arshakyan told the participants of the  Regional Communication Council’s 55th session in Nur-Sultan

He also elaborated on the broadband internet accessibility strategy, the electronic digital corridors project and the enhancement of digital skills.

″Armenia is now implementing large-scale infrastructure projects in collaboration with countries in the Middle East. We are hopeful our experience in this sphere will help to jointly embark upon new infrastructure projects connecting our region with the Asia-Pacific countries, Europe and Asia,″  Arshakyan said.  

The minister added that the government’s priority focus on the sector necessitated the creation of a new agency ″to develop and implement the state policies in the spheres of digitalization, ecosystems and military industries″.

Arshakyan also expressed a willingness to collaborate with all the countries in the region to assist in the implementation of joint projects and the promotion of regional initiative on the global level.

According to a press release by the Ministry, the session also covered a range of other issues of regional importance. The participants discussed particularly the perspective digital development trends and possibilities of introducing and developing 5G technologies in the participant states. They also considered the agenda of the World Telecommunication Standardization Assembly (WTSA-2020) and a number of other issues.

As part of his visit to Kazakhstan, Arshakyan is also set to attend the 25th joint session of the CIS member states’ coordinating council on regional cooperation information affairs.
