Complete with gym, spa, infinity pool and more –James Bond-styled luxury superyacht transforms into a submarine
Meet the Carapace, a 78-meter ultra-luxurious yacht that looks straight out of a James Bond movie. Conceptualized by Italian 34-year-old designer Elena Nappi, the yacht that sails like a normal surface vessel can transform into a fully-functional submarine.
The idea behind the radical yacht design might remind one of Captain Nemo’s Nautilus and sounds like the perfect toy for billionaires. The decadent hybrid vessel is currently being developed in Italy and is expected to be completed by 2021, Luxurylaunches.com reports.
According to its designer, the Carapace has a top surface speed of 16 knots and can sail the waters like regular big-sized luxury yachts, while it can be transformed into a submarine with a maximum depth of 300 meters. It can stay submerged in the ocean 10 days at a time and can cruise underneath the surface at 13 knots.
According to the designer, the luxury hybrid vessel features a lightweight aluminum superstructure and it is powered by a diesel-electric and fuel cell system. “Carapace is designed for the private and public market. The public sector may require this facility when there is a requirement to arrange important meetings, or define agreements or negotiations in complete confidentiality,” she boasted.
The luxury craft’s interior features top-of-the-line amenities which include VIP cabins, a lounge, a spa, a bar, and gym. The company developing the ship also says the ship is being designed to also accommodate passengers with limited mobility. There is no word on how much the Carapace will cost once it is built, but it is likely to come with a price tag of hundreds of million dollars.
