Armenian cabinet approves measures to neutralize coronavirus impact

The executive on Thursday approved its package of measures proposing steps to neutralize the economic impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

The government's ninth program was introduced by Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Zaruhi Batoyan who elaborated on the specific target groups, The assistance is intended for socially vulnerable families with children below the age of 18.

The potential beneficiaries are young people:

- whose parents (or single parent) were officially unemployed as of March 12, 2020 and were not hired (individually or together) for any temporary or permanent position in the period between March 12 and 31;

- whose family was not registered on a family well-being evaluation index as of the above date while having an estimated score below 28.01;

- whose parents did not have the status of an individual entrepreneur (individually or together) or had their activity terminated as of the above date.

"The assistance is provided as a lump sum payment in the amount of 26,500 Armenian Drams [slightly above USD 52] for every child," the minister said.

Families can apply for the program online by filling in a special form. The Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs will publish the beneficiaries' data on its official website. For the purposes of the assigned social assistance, the term beneficiary will apply to families whose children and parents (or at least one child and parent) were permanent residents of Armenia between March 12-31.
