Armenian, Artsakh parliament speakers meet in Yerevan
President of the National Assembly Ararat Mirzoyan on Monday received the newly elected speaker of the Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh) parliament to discuss mutual cooperation affairs.
Greeting Artur Tovmasyan in his office, Armenia's top legislator expressed a firm belief that his activity in a new status would be highly effective in the promotion of inter-parliamentary ties.
Emphasizing the "accomplished traditions" in both legislative activity and political debates, Mirzoyan emphasized the need of enriching the mutual agenda further. In that context, he attached priority to the inter-parliamentary commission's work and the cooperation between the standing committees.
Describing the recently held nationwide elections in his country as a "revolutionary development", Tovmasyan affirmed the Artsakh National Assembly's interest in making the partnership more effective.
"Artsakh will be secure if we have a sustainable Armenia and a powerful Diaspora," he said, emphasizing the priority focus on three pivotal tasks (Artsakh issue, Armenian Genocide recognition, and national security) as a necessary groundwork of future success.
Mirzoyan, for his part, highly appreciated the current level of inter-parliamentary dialogue, agreeing that all the problems can and must be resolved through collaborative efforts. "Armenia and Artsakh are parts of the same fatherland, hence we are required to pursue a single agenda, " he added.
According to the National Assembly's press service, the sides also discussed opportunities of professional development for parliament staffers in Artsakh, emphasizing the need of promoting a closer dialogue and facilitating exchange among diffeerent specialists.
