As coronavirus crisis continues, UNICEF offers lump-sum cash assistance to kids from needy families in Armenia
Amid the continuing coronavirus crisis in Armenia, the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) has launched an aid package to address the special needs of children with disabilities in socially insecure groups.
Lump sum assistance in the amount of 26,500 Armenian Drams ($55) will be offered to each beneficiary child (aged 0-18) whose family receives monthly benefits, the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs reports.
"With thousands of parents elbowing their way through securing their daily life and income, the Government of Armenia has tried to expand the social protection measures to reach the most vulnerable groups," Minister Zaruhi Batoyan said.
The program budget, worth 82,415,000 Drams (over $170,000), was determined in collaboration with the Ministry based estimates of earlier socio-economic assistance packages, and the minimum consumer basket.
The money will be provided as part of the 2016-2020 cooperation program between the Armenian Government and UNICEF, as well as a two-year plan of actions (2019-2020) and the United Nations' joint "COVID-19 and Stability in Armenia: Mitigation Socio-Economic Impact on Vulnerable Groups and Communities" program.
