France to enforce legal ban on ultranationalist Grey Wolves group, ambassador tells Armenian ombudsman
The French government will officially enforce a legal ban on the activities of Grey Wolves, an ultranationalist Turkish group, on the territory of its country starting from November 4, the Armenian ombudsman said in a statement today, unveiling details from a recent meeting with Ambassador Jonathan Lacôte of France.
In a public post on Facebook, the ombudsman also said that he availed of the opportunity to brief the diplomat on the Azerbaijani atrocities against the civilians of Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh), elaborating on such war crimes as the use of prohibited cluster munitions containing chemical elements, firearms and other weapons of mass destruction.
"I expressed my condolences to the French people in connection with the terrorist attack on the Notre Dame Cathedral of Nice and expressed concern over the recent ethnic-based anti-Armenian rallies in France, emphasizing the protection of the security and rights of the local Armenians.
" French Ambassador to Armenia J. Lacôte strongly condemned the cases of vandalism and attacks against French citizens of Armenian descent and informed me of a decision by the French Council of Ministers to ban the Turkish nationalist organization Grey Wolves (Bozkurt) in the country for the ultra-nationalist activity, and past week's attacks and incitement of hatred against the Armenians.
"It is a known fact that both in the period of the April 2016 war and now, torture, atrocities and other violent crimes were and are being committed by members of the Turkish nationalist organization 'Grey Wolves', who have joined the Azerbaijani Armed Forces, and their methods are being widely applied.
"I expressed my sincere gratitude to the Ambassador for this decision of utmost importance," reads Tatoyan's public post.
