Kocharyan: Armenian authorities 'did their best' to make war inevitable
In an interview with the Fifth TV Channel, second President Robert Kocharyan elaborated on the causes of his silence over the past period, saying that "it is the right moment" for the Armenian society to know "the entire truth" about the war in Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh) "to make the discourse more substantial".
Asked whether it was possible to avoid the fighting, the former president said, "Undoubtedly. I am sure the Armenian authorities did their best to make the war inevitable. They simply did all their best. We can just look through the points one by one.
"I have nothing new to say, as I was following the press in the past month; almost everything is stated plainly there. We can just make a summary of it to have a full understanding. First, the negotiation process was driven into a deadlock. The contradictory statements created a kind of situation in which the co-chairs themselves could not really understand what Armenia wanted. And the impression was that Armenia was just inventing tricks in order to push those negotiations into a deadlock."
