Trilateral statements and signed documents 'pertain to anomalies', says former chief of Genocide museum
The recently signed trilateral statements and other documents - between members and non-members of the EAEU and the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) - pertain to a long set of anomalies, the former director of the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute said today, questioning the legitimacy of the November 10 ceasefire on Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh) and the subsequently agreed deals.
Elaborating on the essence of the Russia-brokered truce, Hayk Demoyan noted that two member states of the interstate military bloc (Armenia and Russia) concluded a deal with a non-member (Azerbaian) that had practically come out as a winner in the wake of the military operations.
He added that the January 11 statement too, implied the same logic of inequality, with two EAEU member states agreeing on new post-war realities with a non-member.
Another anomaly, Demoyan said, deals with prisoners of war (POWs), an arrangement which Azerbaijan failed to respect, obliging Armenia to abide by other clauses of the document. "This is considered anomaly, as border delimitation does, by definition, imply [the return] of prisoners of war. That's the simplest logic. So why doesn't it take place and why does, above all, the Armenian leader declare that the problem with POWs 'wasn't resolved for now'. That's an open question to all."
The historian also expressed his surprise over the authorities' somewhat inadequate position "tantamount to a political impotence".
He criticized the government for demonstrating a total indifference to the security-related threats stemming from Azerbaijan's belligerent and anti-Armenian rhetoric. In his words, the authorities are "pre-occupied only with foreign grants". "But before receiving those grants, they must have the understanding of the security of Armenia and the Armenian citizens. But that does not seem to be of any primary or essential importance to them," he added.
