Armenia improves ranking on Transparency International's Corruption Perception Index

Armenia has improved its ranking by 17 points on the annual Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) published by Transparency International.

With a score of 49, the country rose to the 60th position last year from the 77th in 2019.

Among the regional neighbors, Georgia also showed positive dynamics, scoring 56 to rank as the 45th country on the index. Belarus is in the 63rd  place with a country score of 47, while Iran, which has scored 149, lags behind Armenia by just three levels.  

Azerbaijan (30) and Turkey (40) are place 129th and 86th, respectively.

The index, which ranks 180 countries and territories by their perceived levels of public sector corruption according to experts and businesspeople, uses a scale of zero to 100, where zero is highly corrupt and 100 is very clean, according to a brief description on the organization's website.

The leading countries on the latest index are Denmark (88), New Zealand (88) and Finland (85).
