Azerbaijan’s non-attendance at scheduled talks ‘prompts scenario of a military solution’ - expert

Azerbaijan’s failure to attend the previously arranged talks to discuss measures for resolving the border crisis reflects the obscene behaviour of the Baku tyrant who has decided to seize certain parts of Armenia’s sovereign territory, an expert in Iranian studies said today, calling for an adequate reaction to the adversary’s conduct.

Vardan Voskanyan, who has joined the pre-electoral alliance ‘I have the Honor’, shared his concerns especially over the situation in Sev Lich (Black Lake), Ishkhanasar (Syunik region), Kut and Upper Shorzha (Gegharkunik region).

“That decision, apparently, was made on the highest level in Baku. The bashi-bozouks [leaderless gangs, a historical allusion to the irregular soldiers of the Ottoman Army] located at those sites cannot possibly decide whether or not to attend [the talks]. Hence, all this must receive an adequate reaction,” he said in an interview with Tert.am.   

The expert stressed the need of maximum efforts by the Armenian authorities towards reinstating the country’s rights “without ruling out a military solution”.

In his words, Azerbaijan may be artificially protracting the process in an effort to provoke military clashes. Voskanyan said he also sees also “multiple targets” in that country’s policy actions.

“Among the primary targets is their move to make our roadways maximum vulnerable in the direction of Karvachar [Kalbajar]. It has a defensive purpose in the face of Baku’s fears that the Armenian side will sooner or later take revenge,” he added.

Noting that Azerbaijan is not ready for peace (despite the propaganda voiced by different political circles in Armenia), Voskanyan stressed the need of appropriate resistance by the Armenian leadership as a necessary measure towards re-establishing the country’s rights in the region.
