A recent threatening statement by the U.S. President about seizing Iran’s Kharg Island in the Persian Gulf, even if it were to happen, would essentially change nothing regarding the fate of the Strait of Hormuz. This was written by Iranologist Vardan Voskanyan.

“Through this island, which has an area of about 25 square kilometers, the lion’s share of Iran’s oil is exported. However, that oil still has to pass through the Strait of Hormuz to enter the international market, and the strait is controlled by Iran.

Therefore, apart from the military risks such an operation would pose for the United States, the capture of the island would not reduce global oil prices; on the contrary, it could significantly increase them. Consequently, pursuing such a course at this moment would, in broad terms, only create an even more deadlocked situation,” he wrote.
