Brussels Approves New EU Mission in Armenia

The foreign ministers of the European Union today gave the “green light” to the launch of a new civilian mission in Armenia, which is intended to help Yerevan combat hybrid threats, including foreign interference in electoral processes, cyberattacks, and illegal political financing.

The mission will begin operating in the coming months, will have a two-year mandate, and will be called the “European Union Partnership Mission in the Republic of Armenia” (EUPM Armenia). This was reported by Azatutyun.

Armenia had formally requested the deployment of the mission from the European Union back in December of last year. Following discussions held in Brussels and Armenia, the alliance’s ambassadors unanimously approved the proposal to establish the mission last week.

The new mission is expected to consist of only 20–30 representatives, who will mainly work in close cooperation with Armenian authorities in the capital.
