The European Commission has presented the agenda for the first EU–Armenia summit to be held in Yerevan

The European Commission has provided details regarding the first European Union–Armenia summit, which will take place in Armenia on May 4–5.

According to Armenpress, a statement published on the European Commission’s website notes that the first EU–Armenia summit will be held on May 4–5 in Yerevan, adding that this marks significant progress in relations between Armenia and the European Union, reaffirming the EU’s strong commitment to Armenia’s sovereignty, resilience, and reform agenda.

The summit will be attended by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and European Council President António Costa. EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas will also participate.

During the summit, the leaders will discuss recent progress in bilateral relations and strengthen cooperation, particularly in the areas of economy, connectivity, and security. They will also address joint efforts aimed at strengthening stability in the South Caucasus. Regional and global developments will also be on the agenda, including those in Ukraine and the Middle East.

As a result of the summit, the launch of the EU–Armenia partnership in the field of connectivity will be announced. This will include cooperation in transport, energy, digital sectors, as well as people-to-people contacts, accompanied by high-level dialogues on connectivity and transport. It is noted that this will be complemented by initiatives to mobilize EU private investment in Armenia.

“Both sides will take concrete steps to deepen cooperation in the field of security and defense, including through the establishment of a new EU partnership mission in Armenia,” the statement says.

Following the summit, a working arrangement will be signed between Armenia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs and the European Border and Coast Guard Agency (FRONTEX).

“The first EU–Armenia summit demonstrates the tangible benefits of EU–Armenia cooperation and the EU’s commitment to promoting peace and prosperity in the South Caucasus.

A joint press conference by the leaders is expected after the summit,” the statement concludes.
