UN General Assembly Unanimously Adopts Armenia's “Education for Peace” Resolution

At a plenary meeting of the United Nations General Assembly, the “Education for Peace” resolution submitted by the Republic of Armenia was unanimously adopted. This was reported by Armenia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The initiative stems from the strategic importance that the Government of Armenia attaches to education, as well as from the positive and future-oriented agenda that Armenia promotes in international forums, aimed at advancing international and regional peace, sustainable development, and the protection of human rights.

The resolution, initiated by Armenia and jointly presented with its principal co-sponsors—France, Chile, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, and Nepal—was co-sponsored by approximately 100 UN member states from all regional groups, demonstrating the international community’s strong and broad support for Armenia’s initiative.

By adopting the “Education for Peace” resolution, the United Nations reaffirms its commitment to guaranteeing the right to accessible, safe, inclusive, and quality education for all, with particular attention to children affected by armed conflicts, humanitarian emergencies, and other crises, including refugees. The resolution recognizes the role of education in building just, peaceful, and inclusive societies and in promoting a culture of peace.

UN member states are called upon to ensure education that is based on a culture of peace. The resolution encourages the advancement of education as a means of addressing the root causes of conflicts, fostering mutual trust, and strengthening social cohesion.
