“COP17 is very important; we must increase Armenia’s international visibility, and around 15,000 people are expected to come.” Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said this during a Cabinet meeting.

“There is a road connecting Yerevan’s Victory Bridge with Arshakunyats Avenue that has not been in use for many years. I have proposed that our colleagues at Yerevan City Hall name it COP17 Street, also as a way of commemorating this global event,” Pashinyan noted.

Minister of Environment Hambardzum Matevosyan also addressed the upcoming event, speaking about its significance and the organizational preparations:

“Representatives of the 196 countries that are parties to the Convention, as well as tens of thousands of participants from around the world, will take part in the conference. COP17 is particularly significant because Armenia will host the first global assessment of progress in implementing the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework.

For Armenia, this is a unique opportunity to strengthen our country’s role in international environmental processes and to present Armenia’s environmental agenda and rich biodiversity to the world.

Framework agreements have been signed with the conference organizers, and all organizational work is being carried out in accordance with the Host Country Agreement concluded between the Republic of Armenia and the United Nations.

The total amount of the agreement presented under the project is approximately 2.64 billion drams. Within this framework, the organizer will ensure the rental of four tents with a total area of 5,400 square meters, in accordance with international standards for hosting the conference. Furniture and equipment will also be procured, along with transportation services,” he said.

It should be recalled that in October 2026, Armenia will host COP17, the 17th Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity.
