Azerbaijan should ensure uninterrupted railway connectivity between Armenia and Iran through Nakhichevan, Iranian Ambassador to Armenia Khalil Shirgholami said during a discussion titled “Reflections on TRIPP.”

“We believe that the geopolitical deadlock contributed to the emergence in Armenia of the idea that the potential of one’s own country should be used to overcome this deadlock. The sense of geopolitical isolation and being constrained played an even greater role than economic considerations in shaping this thinking, which ultimately led to the decision for Armenia to join the project connecting Nakhichevan to the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan and, through it, Turkey to Baku.

Whether and how this project can help Armenia overcome its isolation and put an end to this sense of being constrained is a matter of debate. There may be different views and even disagreements, and only time will show whether this is feasible or not,” he noted.
