29.4% of respondents say Armenia should remain in the EAEU, while 35.1% believe it should move toward the EU: survey

Aram Navasardyan, Director of MPG LLC, the full member of the Gallup International Association in Armenia, presented the results of a survey on how people would vote if a referendum were held in Armenia on leaving the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and moving toward membership in the European Union (EU).

According to the survey, 29.4% of respondents said Armenia should remain in the EAEU, while 35.1% said it should leave the EAEU and move toward EU membership. A total of 24.7% said they would not participate in the vote, while 10.9% found it difficult to answer the question.

Respondents were also asked whether they believed the restrictions imposed by Russia on imports of Armenian products were motivated by particular factors. Participants were presented with several statements and were allowed to select more than one answer.

According to 52.4% of respondents, the restrictions are intended to exert economic pressure on Armenia’s leadership. Another 40.5% believe they are related to the Republic of Armenia’s aspirations toward the European Union, while 5.1% attributed them to quality-related problems with Armenian products.

In May 2026, the leaders of the EAEU member states adopted a declaration calling on the Government of the Republic of Armenia to decide as soon as possible between the EAEU and EU directions. They also called for a nationwide referendum on the issue in order to determine the opinion of the Armenian people.

Respondents were also asked whether, in their opinion, such a referendum should be held in Armenia.

According to the survey, 38.5% of respondents said a referendum should definitely be held in Armenia, while 20.3% answered “rather yes.” In other words, around 60% of citizens believe that such a referendum should be held. Meanwhile, 9.3% answered “rather no,” and 25.1% said it should definitely not be held. A total of 6.9% found it difficult to answer.

It should be noted that the survey was conducted by telephone. A total of 1,001 people were surveyed. The sampling margin of error is 3 percentage points. The survey was conducted from September 22 to 24.
