Prosperous Armenia leader likely to buy Tumanyan’s house

The leader of Prosperous Armenia party, Gagik Tsarukyan, is very likely purchase Armenian poet Hovhannes Tumanyan’s house in Tbilisi, a reliable source has told Tert.am.

Earlier the poet’s grand granddaughter, Irma Safrazbekyan, had said at the prime minister’s office that the house already has a buyer. The person concerned was reported to have expressed willingness to donate the premises to the local Armenian community with a view of turning it into a cultural center.

Speaking to Tert.am, President of the Writers’ Union Levon Ananyan, confirmed the plan about the deal but he did not disclose the potential purchaser’s name.

Those attending the working discussion at the prime minister’s office even proposed a fundraising campaing but Safrazbekyan said the process might be time-consuming.

According to the Ministry of Culture, Armenia’s foreign minister will discuss the legal procedures of the donation with Georgia after the house’s sale.
