Ararat, German-Turkish film, screened in Berlin (photos)

The Berlin International Film Festival this year saw the screening of the short-length film Ararat, a German-Turkish joint production.

According to the festival’s official website, the director of the film is an ethnic Turk, Engin Kundag.

A central hero in Ararat is a man who portrays the image of the present-day Noah.

The man had not seen or been in touch with his father for ten years. But when he died, Noah made the 4,000 kilometre journey from Germany to bury him at the foot of Mount Ararat. His gentle brother still lived in his father’s village. He led a less-than-happy married existence with his energetic wife, who thought of her husband as a weakling. Noah, the German, tries to mediate.

While creating his hero’s image, the director draws parallels between him and Patriarch Noah, giving the former a chance to return to his roots.
