Azerbaijani film festival cancelled for security considerations

The Caucasus Center for Peacemaking Initiatives has cancelled the Azerbaijani film festival scheduled in the second largest city of Gyumri.

Speaking to Tert.am, the president of the Center, Georgy Vanyan, said they have made such decision for security considerations.

“The security of Asparez [Journalists’] Club and our organization’s employees, as well as the audience expected to arrive in Gyumri from Yerevan was at issue,” he said.

The proposal to organize the festival in Gyumri was met with protests backed by Mayor Vardan Ghukasyan and the president of Shirak Football Club, Arman Sahakyan, who has nominated his candidacy for parliament in one of the majority constituencies of the city.
