Armenia to host ICOM Assembly

On the occasion of 500th anniversary of Armenian Typography, Armenia will for the first time host the International Council of Museums (ICOM) Assembly, Marine Haroyan, chairperson of ICOM National Committee of Armenia told the reporters today.

“On these days ICOM is always giving gifts to museums. Last year computers were donated to 19 museums, this year ten museums will get them,” she said.

May 18 is International Museum Day. It has been celebrated all over the world since 1977.

Marine Haroyan said the Assembly is scheduled for October 2012. ICOM chairman, director of Louvre’s Museum, representatives of world famous museums will attend the event.

Asked whether Jugha cross-stones’ issue will be raised at the Assembly, Mrs. Haroyan responded positively, adding that the issue will also be voiced at UNESCO training to be conducted in Armenia before the Assembly with a participation of a number of specialists from different countries of the world.
