Presentation of ‘Manuscripts of Armenian incunabula: 1512 to 1712’ at Yerevan State University

Norair Poghosyan, Associate Professor at the Armenian Language History Department, Yerevan State University (YSU), studied numerous Armenian medieval manuscripts and arrived at the conclusion that Armenians worshiped the book.

Poghosyan sums up this historical evidence in his book entitled “Manuscripts of Armenian incunabula: 1512 to 1712.” The presentation of the book was held at the YSU Department of Philology, as part of celebrations of the 500th anniversary of Armenian book printing.

The manuscripts show that Armenians felt awe at the book in the Middle Ages, Poghosyan said.

“We can say that the records are a minor reflection of our people’s book publishing culture. They are the best evidence of the Armenians’ worship of the book,” Poghosyan said.
