Opera house to be opened in Nagorno-Karabakh

An opera house will soon be opened in Nagorno-Karabakh.

At a meeting with journalists, Professor of Yerevan State Conservatoire Hovhannes Hovhannisyan and Artistic Director of the Ghazaros Saryan opera studio, Professor Hovhannes Mirzoyan said that the Nagorno-Karabakh Ministry of Culture has started the relevant work.

Professor Hovhannisyan noted that the Stepanakert Drama Theater will be renovated to meet the standards set for opera theaters.

He also said that the opera company can be formed even now. The local company has performed ‘Anush’ twice, he added.

Hovhannisyan said that the renovation project is ready and, if financing is available, the new building will be ready within three years.

Professor Mirzoyan noted that an opera studio may be established in Nagorno-Karabakh.

Development of opera will certainly enhance Nagorno-Karabakh’s reputation.
