Art figures warn against sponsoring low-quality culture in Armenia

Founder, art director of Karin folk ensemble Gagik Ginosyan claims about absence of cultural policy in Armenia.

Speaking to reporters today, he said the TVs work bad, national cultural values are completely ignored, serious financial issues exist, financial means are directed in wrong direction.

Gagik Ginosyan claimed that the main bodies responsible for it are state bodies while they themselves stage low-quality concerts during official events, and moreover applaud to low-quality songs. Ginosyan said he demands exclusion of sponsoring low-quality music, instead sponsoring high-quality culture.

He said state investments are necessary for propagating culture and mandatory standards should be worked out for the television.

Singer, MP from the ruling Republican Party Shushan Petrosyan agrees that the financial issues does not allow revealing good artists not able to show their talent.

She said there are no programs on TV to contribute to preservation of national identity. There are only two on the Public TV.
