International Mime Festival in Armenian Tsakhkardzor: monument to Leonid Yengibaryan unveiled

The International Mime Festival in Tsakhkadzor, Armenia, was marked by the unveiling of a monument to Leonid Yengibaryan, a famous mime and circus actor, People’s Artist of the Armenian SSR.

The sculptor David Minasyan is the author of the monument.

Armenia’s Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan attended the ceremony.

Speaking at the ceremony, the sculptor noted that it was a pleasure to create Leonid’s sculpture.

Zhirair Dadasyan, Director of the Yerevan State Pantomime Theater, told journalists that both young and old love Leonid Yengibaryan.

“He is a unique phenomenon in our people’s history. Throughout his life he was a preacher of love, kindness and light,” Dadasyan said.
Tsakhkadzor Mayor Garun Mirzoyan noted that the local residents consider it great honor to host the festival and so many guests.

“We cannot imagine an international mime festival without our Leonid and his art. The new monument is a tribute of respect to the great actor,” Mirzoyan said.

Following the ceremony, Sos Petrosyan, Director of the Yerevan Circus after Leonid Yengibaryan, proposed that one of Yerevan streets be named after the great actor.
