Churches in Ani reconstructed (photos)

The ruined churches of Ani are being reconstructed, Turkish-Armenian paper Agos reports.

The works have launched in Ani's the Savior and St. Gregory churches funded by the World Monuments Fund, Kars Culture and Tourism Department, US embassy.

The works will last till September 15. During this period alleys and roads of the churches have been reconstructed. Pamukkale university associate professor Fahriye Bayram said the territory near St. Gregory Church has been renovated and cleaned.

Bayram said the St. Gregory church was built in 980. He said excavation and reconstruction works will be carried out and will continue in the coming years as well.
