Sculptured Armenian writers, actors sitting on Yerevan benches

Monuments to the Armenian writer Yeghishe Charents and actor Mher Mkrtchyan have been set up on benches in Yerevan’s Charles Aznavour Square.

Araz Baghdasaryan, Head of the Landscape Design and Advertising Department, Yerevan Municipality, told Tert.am that the sites for the monuments were preferred by Charents and Mkrtchyan themselves.

“For example, the film ’01-99’ with Mher Mkrtchyan starring was shown at the Moscow cinema. And Yeghishe Charents would spend his time here, which has been considered.” The two monuments are not the only ones involved in the ‘Our geniuses beside us in Yerevan’ project. “Another nine monuments will appear in different parts of the city before October 14 – monuments to Minas Avetisyan, Hrachya Nersisyan and others.”
