Armenian director’s film nominated for Oscar

A film by the Russian-Armenian producer and screenwriter, Karen Shahnazarov, has been nominated for Oscar’s Best Foreign Language Film award, BBC Russian reported.

The decision was made on Saturday by a commission selecting films for the contest.

“This is of course a game that follows the rules of a film union, but it’s incredibly pleasant, and I am proud that I have had the honor to represent the Russian Federation at the award ceremony,” the director has told the Interfax news agency.

The plot of the film, The White Tiger, is based on Ilya Baoyashov’s short-story entitled The Tankman (or The White Tiger).

The full list of the Oscar nominees will be unveiled in January 2013.
