Michel Legrand in Armenia

The world-famous composer Michel Legrand has arrived in Yerevan.

He will take part in a concert the State Philharmonic Orchestra of Armenia will perform on the occasion of his 80th birthday anniversary.

After the rehearsals, the maestro met with journalists.

A son of a French father and Armenian mother, Michel Legrand does not think his age is an ornament to him. He is not willing to go through a period of his life once more as he is "independent of the past."

With respect to his fame and awards, the maestro noted that all this is nothing but « lumps of sugar we get. »

This is Michel Legrand’s first-ever visit to Armenia. He said that Armenia is always in his heart and he has seen almost all the documentaries about the Armenian Genocide.

The maestro does not rule out he might write music for Armenian films if he is offered to. Also, He would not come to Armenia if he were not of high opinion of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Armenia.

Michel Legrand is carrying out vigorous creative activities. He has completed his first ballet and performed a concert in Japan ten days ago. After leaving Armenia he will start working on his musical.

During tomorrow’s concert Michel Legrand will perform his own compositions.

The maestro also spoke of his personal life: for ten years he lived with his Armenian grandfather, who played ud and saz and showed him how to play Armenian melodies.

Speaking of Turkey, is Michel Legrand said that state is behaving like the USSR did, as if it were the master of the world.

The maestro wants to take a present from Armenia with him - a canvas by Martiros Saryan, for example.
