Armenia’s education minister meets winners of international school olympiads

Minister of Education and Science Armen Ashotyan received on Wednesday the winners of the international school Olympiads in Astronomy and Computer Science.

Extending his gratitude to the pupils, teachers and team leaders for the successful result, the minister noted that about three months ago, President Serzh Sargsyan had received the Armenian young awardees of different international Olympiads to congratulate them and wish them more medals and achievements in future competitions.

“And three months later, our schoolchildren recorded a new brilliant result, winning six - including one gold, one silver and four bronze – medals in the Olympiads in Astronomy and Computer Science,” the minister said.

Ashotyan told the pupils that the Armenian team, which has won a total of 16 medals in 2012, shares the 5th-7th positions with the former Soviet Republics, as well as Turkey and Iran.

“The results of the 2012 school Olympiads in different subjects suggest that the Armenian pupils have beaten a unique record in the history of independent Armenia, demonstrating the highest result,” he noted.
